In fact, it is meant as a discussion-ender. "Either accept my transgenderism or else you are a horrible monster" tends to do that. But I could just say, "Engage in the intellectual fine points of my question or you are de-humanizing me!" So, perhaps ironically, we can love them, and they may de-humanize us by saying we are such that we de-humanize them.Randy Everisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06870605678781409126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1433428682510068517.post-51617177856506402252018-08-15T17:40:56.965-04:002018-08-15T17:40:56.965-04:00I think your last paragraph is important, but I...I think your last paragraph is important, but I've heard more than once that questioning a person's perception of his or her gender or questioning the idea of transgenderism in general is basically putting their humanity into question, which would justify treating them terribly. If that's what they believe, it seems like it's almost impossible to get them to believe that we do love them and want to value them. I don't know how they get from "I think you misperceive your gender" to "I think you are less valuable so I can mistreat you," but I've seen them say it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1433428682510068517.post-52724274260902416802018-07-05T16:59:19.650-04:002018-07-05T16:59:19.650-04:00Thanks, Jonathan! Honestly, I'm afraid that although we as evangelical Christians mean well, we often fail to think deeply about these issues before we start offering solutions. :)Randy Everisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06870605678781409126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1433428682510068517.post-51780449480120658782018-07-05T16:57:06.518-04:002018-07-05T16:57:06.518-04:00Great job highlighting the distinction between the...Great job highlighting the distinction between the epistemology and ontology of gender roles.
