Why God?

In this section you'll find several popular arguments for God's existence and/or Christianity's truth. Each week, a different apologetic argument will be highlighted and briefly explained, with a link or reference for further research. In addition, the other arguments will always be listed in link form for your reading and use. We need to be ready to give an answer to anyone who may ask of us!

Kalam Cosmological Argument
  1. Whatever begins to exist had a cause.
  2. The universe began to exist.
  3. Therefore, the universe had a cause.
The first premise is easy to defend. Most people intuitively believe there is a cause for anything which begins to exist; this is called the causal principle. To deny the causal principle is to admit that not even the potential for the effect existed in the case of the universe!

The second premise is also widely accepted. Modern science is now at a virtual consensus concerning the beginning of the universe (in the sense that there was one). In fact, it is usually only those who are aware of the theistic implications who reject it. If both premises are accepted as true, then the conclusion follows: the universe had a cause. This cause must have been spaceless, timeless, immaterial, and personal. It's quite an effective argument!
