Kalam Cosmological Argument
- Whatever begins to exist had a cause.
- The universe began to exist.
- Therefore, the universe had a cause.
The second premise is also widely accepted. Modern science is now at a virtual consensus concerning the beginning of the universe (in the sense that there was one). In fact, it is usually only those who are aware of the theistic implications who reject it. If both premises are accepted as true, then the conclusion follows: the universe had a cause. This cause must have been spaceless, timeless, immaterial, and personal. It's quite an effective argument!
